About Lunchbox Qatar
Helping parents in Qatar choose better, one product at a time.
Lunchbox Qatar started with a simple question every parent asks in the supermarket aisle: is this actually a good choice for my child? Food labels are small, technical, and often only in one language — so the honest answer is usually “I’m not sure.”
We’re building the answer. We photograph the labels of products on Qatar’s shelves, read the nutrition and ingredients, and turn each one into a simple traffic-light score any parent can understand in a second.
What we look at
- How much sugar — and especially how much added sugar.
- Additives and how heavily processed a product is.
- The things that genuinely matter for an everyday lunchbox.
Our promise
No brand pays for a score. We are independent. A green light is earned, never bought. That independence is the whole point — it’s what makes a score worth trusting and worth sharing.
Aligned with Qatar’s vision
Qatar has made a healthy population a national goal. The Human Development pillar of Qatar National Vision 2030 calls for a physically and mentally healthy society, and the National Health Strategy 2024–2030 puts population health and prevention at its centre. Qatar acts on sugar specifically: school-canteen rules keep foods high in fat, sugar and salt out of schools, and since 6 July 2026 the excise tax on sweetened drinks is tiered by how much sugar a drink contains.
Lunchbox Qatar is our contribution to that national direction: we make sugar, additives and processing visible on the shelf, so families can choose in daily life what the country is working towards. We are an independent parent project — not affiliated with or endorsed by any government body.
A work in progress
Our catalog grows every week as we scan more products. If a product you’re looking for isn’t here yet, it’s probably next. Follow @lunchbox_qatar to see what we add.
